Pilot Programme on Provision of Small Food Waste Composters at School (Phase Two) Invitation for Application

As positive responses were received from schools participating in the Pilot Programme on Provision of Small Food Waste Composters at School (Phase One) launched in December 2018 and there are potential demands from schools on acquiring small composters for education and demonstration purposes, the Environmental Protection Department through the Environmental Education and Community Action Projects funding scheme under the Environment Campaign Committee is now launching Phase Two of the Pilot Programme (the Phase Two Programme).

The 3-year Phase Two Programme will provide 5 kg small food waste composters together with associated educational materials to primary and secondary schools with dual objectives of cultivating “Food Wise” culture among teachers and students through reducing food waste at source, and demonstrating the recycling of unavoidable food waste into compost for use in planting on campuses. One talk and one workshop will be organised for each participating school in the first year.

For the second and third year, talk(s) and/or workshop(s) will be organised upon request from the participating schools, or assistance will be provided to the participating schools to organise their own food waste-related educational activities. Education kit for educating “Food Wise” at schools, help desk services to provide professional technical support and 3-year maintenance services are also available under the Phase Two Programme.

We are now calling for applications for the Phase Two Programme from 4 September 2020 (Friday) to 27 November 2020 (Friday) (Updated). Applicant schools that are interested in participating in the Phase Two Programme may click here to view the presentation slides and click here to download the Application Form.
